Marbling is an art that has been practiced for over a thousand years. By applying paints to a thickened liquid, you can build stunning one-of-a-kind designs that can be used in a variety of paper crafts or displays. Traditionally used on books, artists have found countless ways to incorporate marbling into various uses.
In this class you will learn about the history, techniques, materials, and tools used in this art. You will then learn the basic patterns and movements that make up all of the design possibilities. We will finish with adding different additives to paint and paper to see how marbling changes and reacts!
Participants will leave with at least 10 custom marbled paper sheets, sizes 8.5x11 and 11x17. Make a gift for a special someone, use the marbled paper for a book arts project or as a background for framed prints. The possibilities are endless!
Cost of workshop includes materials, instruction by S-R staff and takeaway prints. Paper in this workshop is from French Paper Company, a small Michigan Paper Mill around for more than 140 years. We will be using water based acrylic paints, dress appropriately!

Geralyn Lance is an amateur bookbinder and marbling artist. Her day job as the production manager for a specialty press led her to discover her passion for the physical creation of books and their surrounding arts.
She’s based in the metro Detroit area, and grew up in west Michigan. When not working on book arts, she can be found playing with her three dogs, reading science fiction, fantasy, and romance books, gaming, and attempting to get as much glitter in to her life as possible.
