Signal-Return (map)

Make a fantastic first impression with your own letterpress printed calling cards! Students will learn the basics of letterpress printing including learning to set movable type, as well as inking and printing on Signal Return’s platen presses.

Students will print a set of 25, 2” x 3.5” cards. Come prepared with an idea of how you’d like your business cards to read. Bring quotes, jokes, words of wisdom, or your favorite text to print on your cards. Keep in mind these will be 1-sided prints.

Cost of workshop includes materials, instruction by S-R staff and takeaway prints. Paper in this workshop is from French Paper Company, a small Michigan Paper Mill around for more than 140 years.

Laura Beyer is an artist specializing in printmaking and book arts. She graduated with her BFA from Albion College and her MFA from the University of the Arts in Philadelphia. Laura’s artwork has been collected by colleges & universities, private collections as well as the Detroit Institute of Art. Her letterpress business, Hearty Greetings, uses the long tradition of print along with the modern possibilities of design to produce artisanal goods for special occasions or everyday use.
